Dovje
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dovje is a village (703 m elevation) with a rich history and rural tradition. As one of the sunniest villages in Slovenia, it is located under the deep slopes of the Karavanke mountains. This great location gave its inhabitants a nice piece of land for farming, which has been the main occupation of the town for many centuries.
The village itself has preserved a lot of alpine architectonic characteristics. The most interesting of these are the semi-circled front doors of the old rustic houses.
On the cemetery by St. Michael's church, the mountaineers who lost their lives in Triglav mountain range found their last resting place.
For 38 years, Dovje was a home to Jakob Aljaž.
