Dovercourt
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dovercourt is a small seaside town located in Essex, England.
Dovercourt is somewhat older than its smaller but better-known neighbour, the port of Harwich, and appears in the Domesday Book of 1087. Today the two towns are contiguous.
Dovercourt is rich with civil war history and as a seaside resort offers a wide range of shops and cafes for the enjoyment of holiday makers, casual visitors and residents.
The main shopping area of Dovercourt is High Street, a shopping street with a variety of different shops, from independents to the larger national chains.
The popular 1980s BBC sitcom Hi-de-Hi! was filmed in Dovercourt, at Warner’s Holiday Camp, which transformed into the famous Maplin’s. The camp was later re-developed as a housing estate.
