Dourados is a city in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, 225 km Southwest of Campo Grande, the state's capital. It has a population of approximately 190.000 inhabitants, and its economy is based mainly in agriculture and pecuary. Second more populous and important city of this state.
Its medias, commerce and services more than take care of the thirty cities of Mato Grosso do Sul, beyond a part of Paraguay. For its size and importance, it is a economic and social capital of a region that possesses a million of inhabitants approximately (what valley the heading of Vestibule of the Mercosul).
Its development was slow until the first half of the 20th century, because of the transport deficiency (roads), especially with Campo Grande and the State of São Paulo. From 1950, it increased its development with the construction of roads. With this, it received migrantes from some parts of the country (especially sulistas and São Paulo) and immigrants (mainly Japanese). The city very possesses an intense relation with the Paraguayan neighbor and is a little more than 100 km of the border, being a strong factor of ethnic and cultural union between the city and the neighboring country. Because of this, 30% of the inhabitants of Golden have some Paraguayan familiar bow.
