[edit] Biography

In 1996, the band, originally named MK Ultra, burst onto the music scene in their hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. After winning the award for Atlanta's favorite "metal/extreme band" in 1998, DoubleDrive signed a record deal with MCA Records, and subsequently released their first album, 1000 Yard Stare in August 1999. In 2001, doubleDrive entered the studio with producer John Kurzweg to record their second album. However, around that time, they parted ways with MCA Records with a completed album unreleased. After shopping the album, the band signed with Roadrunner Records and re-entered the studio in 2002 with producer Michael Barbiero to re-mix the album and record several new songs. The product of this Blue in the Face, was released in April 2003

DoubleDrive toured with bands such as Sevendust, Kid Rock, Queensrÿche, Megadeth, and Stereomud. On December 3, 2003, DoubleDrive played their final show in Atlanta, Georgia. Singer Donnie Hamby is now doing DVD work (did work on Sevendust's Southside Doublewide Acoustic Live and Next DVDs). Guitarist Troy McLawhorn now plays in Dark New Day. Drummer Mike Froedge is now playing with Open Sky Separators.
