Double burden

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The double burden refers to the workload of women who work to earn money, but also have responsibility for unpaid domestic labor. In heterosexual couples where both partners have jobs, the woman often spends significantly more time on household chores and care work, such as child rearing and care for the sick, than the male partner. This phenomenon is also known as the "second shift," as in Arlie Hochschild's book of the same name.
