From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dory is one of the main characters in Pixar Animation Studio's Academy Award-winning computer animated film Finding Nemo.

Dory is voiced by Emmy Award-winning actress Ellen DeGeneres. Ellen was chose for the role because Finding Nemo director, Andrew Stanton, said she "changed the subject five times before one sentence had finished" on her show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, such characteristics are reflected in Dory's personality.

Dory is a Blue Tang fish. Dory suffers from short-term memory loss which is the source of much of her humour throughout the film. Dory is introduced to us after Marlin, Nemo's dad, loses track of the boat which belongs to the diver that took Nemo. After telling Marlin that she did see a boat pass by, Dory swims in the direction of the boat before her memory loss kicks in a she forgets why Marlin is following her. From this moment on Marlin and Dory become inseperable in their quest to find Nemo.

Marlin, during the shark's fish are friends, not food! party, finds a mask from the boat that Nemo was taken. After being attacked by Bruce, the great white shark Dory remembers she can read and after a close encounter with an anglerfish reads the address to where Nemo is. P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney.

After a meeting with a school of Moonfish and crossing throught the Jellies, Marlin and Dory make it to the East Australian Current, which will take them directly to Sydney. However, they encounter a whale, at which point Dory, much to Marlin's disbelief speaks whale and asks for help. Marlin and Dory are soon eaten by the whale and are dropped off at Sydney harbour.

Dory, throughout the film, often forgets Nemo's name and says it wrong all the time. Some of the names she calls him are:

  • Chico - "Your son Chico?"
  • Fabio - "He's lost his son Fabio"
  • Bingo - "His son Bingo"
  • Rocko - "Poor Rocko"
  • Elmo - "Bye Elmo!"
  • Harpo - "Not much fun for little Harpo"
