Dorothy Marie "Dottie" Metcalf-Lindenburger was born on May 2, 1975 in Colorado Springs, Colorado and married Jason Metcalf-Lindenburger, a 7th grade teacher at the time, in 2000.

She was selected in 2004 as an Educator Mission Specialist, and is the youngest NASA astronaut.

Selected by NASA in May 2004, and currently undergoing training. Astronaut Candidate Training includes orientation briefings and tours, numerous scientific and technical briefings, intensive instruction in Shuttle and International Space Station systems, physiological training, T-38 flight training, and water and wilderness survival training. Successful completion of this initial training will qualify her for various technical assignments within the Astronaut Office.
