[edit] History
The aymag was created during the administrative reorganisation of 1941 with the name of Choybalsan, after the communist leader Horloogiyn Choybalsan. The capital, which previously had been called Bayan Tumen, also received the name Choybalsan. In 1963, the aymag was given the current name Dornod.
