Dorchester, Ontario

Dorchester is a small town just outside of London, Ontario, Canada. It is in Thames Centre, which has an approximate population of 12,000. The main bodies of water in Dorchester are the Thames River and the Mill Pond.

There are four schools in Dorchester:

  • River Heights: Located on Hamilton Road. This is a school for children in junior kindergarten to Grade 3.
  • Northdale Central: Located on Catherine Street. Most children come here after River Heights, for Grades 4 to 8.
  • St. Davids: Also on Catherine Street, next to Northdale. This school is for Catholic children from kindergarten to Grade 8.
  • Lord Dorchester: Located on Queen Street. This is Dorchester's only secondary school.

Every year, there are many events held in Dorchester. There is the Dorchester Fair, the Dorchester Car Show, the Dave Clarke Memorial Run, and many more. Also, there are many places where celebrations can be held, such as anniversary parties and Stag and Does. These include the Dorchester Arena and the Optimist Hall. Also, the Scouts organizations in Canada and the USA hold a "brotherhood camp" called the DIBC (Dorchester International Brotherhood Camporee), which usually attracts as many as 4000 scouts from Canada and the US annually.

Dorchester is home to many organizations, including Scouts, Brownies, Air Cadets, the Optimist Club, the Optimist Youth Band, and many more. There are also many churches.

There are many other cities, towns and villages within a fifteen minute drive of Dorchester. These include Thorndale, Thamesford, Putnam, Ingersoll, Belmont, and London.
