Template talk:Doppelganger

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Many users have been impersonated by imposters such as the "Doppelganger" vandal. The vandals use various tricks to create an account name which appears idential to the impersonated user's account name. Often, this takes the form of replacing capital "I's" with lowercase "L's" and visa versa.

As a result, many users are creating "Doppelganger" accounts to prevent their "real" account being impersonated in the future. This template is for these "Doppelganger" accounts, created by legitimate users to avoid being impersonated by vandals. See Doppelganger

In order to use this template, insert the template text on your "Doppelganger" account's user page & talk page. The tag is {{DoppeIganger|Your user name}} where "your user name" is replaced by inserting your "real" account user name. It will appear in place of the {{{1}}} text so that administrators and other users will be able to contact the "real" user.

It is suggested you place the template from your "real" account, rather than the "Doppelganger" account, so the "real" account will show up in the page history. This will help to prevent vandals from using the template to "validate" imposter accounts.

Please do not use this template on the page of a user believed to be an imposter. Use Template:Impostor instead.

[edit] PAGENAMEE

Is there a reason this template uses {{PAGENAMEE}} rather than {{PAGENAME}} for the displayed text? I ask because it unicodes the false username Nae'bIis as Nae%27bIis. I don't want to change this behavior if it's included for a good reason, though.

Also, this template seems like a prime candidate for high-risk protection. -- nae'blis (talk) 15:01, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
