"Dope Nose" is the first single off Weezer's fourth album Maladroit. It came out in 2002 despite being one of the SS2K summer songs that the band played on the road and in the studio during their summer '00 comeback after a hiatus. It is one of the songs playable in the Playstation 2 game Amplitude. "Dope Nose" was written on the same night as the hit song "Hash Pipe" off The Green Album. The story goes that Rivers took "a bunch of Ritalin and had like three shots of tequila," paced around for awhile, then wrote both songs. [1]
The Directors Label DVD for Michel Gondry features a treatment that he wrote for the music video. The video was instead directed by Marcos Siega under a much different premise.
During some live shows in 2005, Weezer bassist Scott Shriner took lead vocals on "Dope Nose."
An interview in Electronic Gaming Monthly with the creators of the Playstation 2 game Guitar Hero mentioned the game's early builds were based off of Dope Nose.
