[edit] Welcome!

Hi, Don Diego, Welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the five pillars of Wikipedia. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page.

[edit] Additional tips

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

[edit] Happy Wiki-ing.

[edit] Whether "his works" is plural or singular

Hi Don, you are right there. The examples that you saw were not appropriate for the argument at hand. Here are two more appropriate ones from the British Council and Britannica websites that had put the argument to rest:

Actually, "his works" can be both plural or singular, depending on whether you are looking at it as a whole, or at its constituents. — PM Poon 13:09, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Mel Etitis

Well, he deserves it, in a way, for his insensitivity towards people like me and his harassment towards many. My reputation has been badly distorted by him as a sort of "bad" person, but without him I wouldn't have ended up like this. Also, my reason of leaving was partly because of my own personal reasons, and partly because of his prolonged trailing on me, frequently editing on similar validated sets of articles as I do. You see, I don't like to come to talk pages to reason out my edits, because this is very time consuming for my true article edits.

I will have to cross path with him once more. After I left, it seems that I saw somewhere that Mel Etitis, together with his allies, discussed about my behaviour with Mr Jimmy Wales, founder of wikipedia. So I must explain all these past nonsense to him in order to clear my reputation. If you wish to know more, please see User:Anittas talk page on my feelings towards Mel Etitis.

Anyway, I'm back here to see what's going on. I'm not hanging around here too long or else Mel Etitis and his allies will eat me up. And I do not want to waste anymore of my life just because of such things. Of course, I really wish this will be the very first and last time that I will cross his path (pointing to my explanation to Mr Jimmy Wales).

Ah yes, I may archive my talk page only when it touches 300KB. And my main intention is to discourage such people to pull me into quarrels like I had with Mel Etitis. Good luck.

[edit] Imposter

Thanks, it looks like the imposter Iago is out of business. I hope he was alone. Thanks, Iago Dali 20:09, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Crossposted

Thanks for your alerts. Had I not seen the piece above on this Mel guy I would not have connected the dots between him and the other user. Whether they were behind it or not I am not sure, but as I tell this Viriditas, the timing is very suspicious. Just a quick look shows that you are right that this Mel seems to thrive on controversy, and Viriditas gets his jollies reverting many longstanding editos. I guess I should not let them get my blood pressure up, but is it any wonder there are real world wars and murder when others will go to such lengths over a paragraph or an edit? Oh well, keep on with the good work. Iago Dali 15:12, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

I realize that the chances of catching this vandal and impersonator are slim. It's sort of like spammers and virus makers. Oh well. Below was my response to this user. I hope that settles things with him. Likely not, but if he harasses me in any further way could I please use you as some sort of liaison? I'm off for now, but thanks for help. Insanity

I don't know you, nor do I care to. You are clearly trying to push some agenda--political, editorial, philosophical, for I see that most of your edits are reversions of many other editors. This is your right. If you think that an edit is bad you can change it, as can I , darwin, or any other editor. The only reason I found your link was because I, and several other users have recently been the victim of impostures, and your paranoid rant I came across. Talk of suspicious! Only a few hours later I am the victim of impersonation to discredit me. Then, Alabamaboy, who others have accused me of being in collusion with, is also targeted. That is suspicious in the highest. I have also looked into some of these other things about impersonation and it would seem that someone with a grudge, and much Wiki experience can do so. Have I interacted with other editors? Yes- some positive and some negative. But you are afont of misinformation. This whole insane idea about me and darwin gor started because you are utterly clueless about copyright law: http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.html#107

I would suggest you actually bookmark the page and read not only that section, but others. I wonder how many good edits you've undone because of your ignorance? Even those I've argued with, like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Marine_69-71 this admin, admit that the entries we've clashed over are better because of my help. And another admin gave me a barnstar. Yet, you're God? Even though you don't know basic copyright law. As I told the Shakespeare editors, my main goal is to reduce these monster sized entries. Since you are obviously oblivious to copyright law, perhaps you should stick to text as well. The same goes with your pal Mel, who apparently has also made a habit of harassing others, as User Don Diego states. As with the Shakespeare crowd, you cannot defend your own edits, so you resort to slander and innuendo. As I did with them, I say, worry about your own quality of edits and leave others alone. If you dislike an edit, revert it, but to impute ill motives, slander others, resort to cabals or the like is wrong. As I told the Shakespeareans, when they accused me of being Alabamaboy's puppet. I am not. I likewise am not Red Darwin, nor his puppet. I wish the same could be said for you and Mel. As proof of your insanity, or inability to actually read, you further claim that darwin and I state similar things on copyright. Yet, clearly, he's as clueless as you are! I know these issues and have worked with them for years. This inability to even grasp words leads me to believe that your edits are prob not good, and the many people you and Mel have harassed have legitimate reasons to be angry. You seem paranoid, and if you are the impersonator- clearly insane.

To end, I wish you nor anyone any harm, but please do not try to stop me by slander, innuendo, or impersonation to get me in trouble with others. I cannot prove that you were the vandal that impersonated me and Alabamaboy and others, but, to quote you: it 'is either an amazing coincidence or highly suspicious'. Perhaps you have the technical skill and programs to continue to harass me and others you have issues with, but surely you have better ways to spend your time? After all, so many articles are in dire need of trimming, clarification, and the like. And please, look at copyright law, or any other issues that other users have, before you undo good edits, and engender ill will. A litle caution is always wise. That said, I desire no contact with you, save should we meet editorially. However, if another impersonation arises, I at least have my suspicions on record. Iago Dali 15:03, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] What's with the link?

Why the small letters? Low self esteem? Don't let those vandals or your RfA get to you, there's still lots of time, then you can beat 'em black and blue when you get your mop and bucket. ;) Hang in there - Don Diego(Talk) 18:59, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Oh no, small sig is kawaii (cute). ;)
Adminship is a distant dream for me. People lack support after RfA's, its only normal to lack support after RfArs. Also some people hold me responsible of RickKs departure. Aside from that I don't recall somewhat sensable excuses for opposes.

[edit] Iago Dali, Red Darwin, et al.

Aloha, Don. At this point, I don't think there's any worry about "innocent users" being "unjustly punished" for anything until a check user request comes back positive. Regarding "proof", my suspicians about Red Darwin/Iago Dali were confirmed by Red Darwin himself, who admitted to "copying" Iago [1] however in my experience, such claims often turn out to be outright sockpuppetry so I will withold judgement until there is further evidence. Iago's "accusations" against me are laughable (trolish really), and the claims (personal attacks) he's made about me are not even worthy of a serious response (such as criticizing my reversions of vandalism whilst on RC patrol). Furthermore, I continue to find it extremely strange that both Iago and Red Darwin defend plagiarism and copyright violation. I've never seen two different users "agree" about such a thing. Occam's razor does work here (see the bottom of this comment) and is far more likely that the two users are the same person rather than Red Darwin "aping" the style of another user. I've been here for a year and I have seen sockpuppets come and go during that time, many of whom made similar claims. There are other strange "coincidences"; For example, a few hours after both Iago Dali and Red Darwin posted on my talk page denying they were sockpuppets, a new user account by the name of Martial Law (talk contribs) posted what appears to be some kind of bizarre, trollish UFO spam on my talk page [2]. Coincidentally, Iago Dali's inital first post on September 1 was to John Edward Mack a UFO enthusiast. Perhaps this means nothing, but if you compare the contribution histories of both Red Darwin and Iago Dali, they are virtually identical in scope, edit summaries, and treatment of Wikipedia policies (such as ignoring heading conventions and copyrights). They have participated in the same talk discussions, and their edits to Talk:Novel, read as the exact same user, both of whom "disagree" with a user by the name of Olaf Simons (talk contribs) and make the exact same point about the Polish Wikipedia. Same goes for Talk:Urban legend, Talk:Life of Pi, and Talk:Short story. In fact, except for Red Darwin's post on Talk:Mother Teresa, 14 out of 15 talk comments by Red Darwin are to talk pages shared with Iago Dali.

But since you insist on proof (as you rightly should) here it is: At 16:11, 1 September 2005, in his very first talk edit to Wikipedia, Iago Dali (talk contribs) posts a query to Talk:Novel [3]. At 18:38, 1 September 2005, Olaf Simons (talk contribs) responds to Iago's query. At 20:44, 1 September 2005, in his very first talk edit to Wikipedia, Red Darwin (talk contribs) responds to Olaf with the words: But, Olaf. You've made my point.. Five minutes later, Red Darwin notices his "error" (revealing that he's a sockpuppet posting under another account) and changes "my point" to "the point" in the hopes that nobody will notice. [4] Q.E.D. --Viriditas | Talk 09:39, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the update. I doubt we've seen the last of them, but I hope that when and if they do return, they choose to participate without violating copyrights. --Viriditas | Talk 10:44, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
Interesting. Thanks for taking the time to keep me informed. From the talk pages that I've read, I'm not entirely convinced that they are different people or that they have different writing styles, but we are both welcome to our opinions, and I certainly respect your informed opinion. I've seen (and could tell you about) some real shenanigans on Wikipedia, including sockpuppets that insisted they were different users (and went so far as to imitate different writing styles) until a CheckUser query came back positive (as a recent example, see this sockpuppet dispute by User:A1sdf aka User:BigDaddy777 ad infinitum). As I said earlier, if there aren't any further copyright infringements, I don't see a problem as long as they aren't manipulating votes or polls. Please keep an eye on my contribution list, as I am planning on going through Dali and Darwin's edits to weed out copyright problems as that concerns me more than than the alleged sockpuppetry. --Viriditas | Talk 03:10, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for supporting my RfA

I know I've been slow in saying this, but thanks for supporting my request for adminship. It was an honor to be both nominated and approved as an admin. If there is ever any adminish (is that a word :-) things you need help with, please let me know. --Alabamaboy 16:42, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Iago Dali

I don't have his e-mail any more. He'd contacted me through the Wikipedia's e-mail function once but I didn't think to save the e-mail address. Other than his talk page, I don't know how to reach him.--Alabamaboy 13:58, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Joaquin Maria Gutierrez

Hi. You probably don't know me. I'd like to ask what happened to your revision of the article on Chino Gutierrez - it's been quite some time now since you promised it, and the article is still in shambles. That's all. :) Igor the Lion(Roar!) 11:54, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
