Donnybrook Fair
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Donnybrook Fair, also known as the Walsh Fair was an annual event in the community of Walsh in Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada from the 19th Century until circa 2001. The mid-September event involved the children of Walsh Public School. In addition to donkey baseball, there were carnival rides and midway games.
During the course of the fair, one of the fair buildings were used to house the artwork that was submitted by the students of Walsh Public School. Usually, it would be something simple like Lego block houses, macaroni glued together to form objects from the child's imagination, or figures made out of Play-Doh. The fair was discontinued due to lack of popularity and funds.
When the fair wasn't operating, the fairgrounds were frequently used for weddings, funerals, and buck and does. Otherwise, the fairgrounds stood empty for a large part of the year.
The name may come from an annual horse fair in Donnybrook, Dublin.
