Donnie Elbert

Donnie Elbert was born on 25 May 1936, in New Orleans. He was an American vocalist and had a prolific career in the 1950's. His reputation was secured by "A Little Piece Of Leather", a compulsive performance highlighting Elbert's irresistible falsetto voice. The song became a standard at UK soul clubs, when released on the Sue label. Donnie Elbert moved to the UK in the 1960's where he recorded the pounding version of The Supremes' hit "Where Did Our Love Go". He returned to the USA in 1969, before there record reached Number 8 in the UK in 1973. He had a small string of minor successes in 1972, with mainly northern soul orientated offerings. These included:-

- "A Little Piece Of Leather"
- "You Don't Have To Be A Star" - (1977)
He died on 26 January 1989, at the age of 52.
