Donner Camp

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Donner Camp is the site near Truckee, California where the Donner Party was trapped by weather during the winter of 1846-1847. Caught without shelter or adequate supplies, members of the group resorted to cannibalism to survive.

Donner Memorial State Park, near the eastern shore of Donner Lake, commemorates the disaster. The site where the Donner families camped at Alder Creek has been designated a National Historic Landmark.
