Donkey Kong Racing is a cancelled video game for the Nintendo GameCube. Presumably it was to be the sequel to Diddy Kong Racing, but Microsoft's buyout of Rare in 2002 rendered the game vaporware.
A video of the game shown at E³ in 2001 is all that is known to exist of the project. The rumoured game Sabreman Stampede, supposedly cancelled early in development, is believed to have been a changed version of Donkey Kong Racing for Xbox. Rumors have surfaced again, though, that Sabreman Stampede may be close to being finished for an Xbox 360 release. This idea has been embraced by fans ever since the 2005 release of Kameo: Elements of Power for the Xbox 360, in which the credits thank the Stampede Team. Also, DK Bongo Blast to be released on Wii in 2006 is said to be DK Racing, but in a new format. In the January 2006 issue of EGM, in the Rumors section, it is suggested that Rare may be developing a Viva Pinata kart racing game. This may be what was previously Donkey Kong Racing/Sabreman Stampede.
