Donkey Kong Junior (AKA Donkey Kong Jr., DK Jr. or DKJ) is a character from a Nintendo's Donkey Kong series. He is Donkey Kong's son. His first appearance was Donkey Kong Junior. In this game, the object was for the protagonist to rescue his father, who had been captured by Mario. After that he appeared in Super Mario Kart followed by an appearance in Mario's Tennis. He later appeared as a secret character in Mario Tennis 64. Donkey Kong Jr. also made cameo appearances in the Game Boy version of Donkey Kong and in the SNES and GBA versions of Super Mario Bros. 3 as the physical appearance of a transformed king. He also appeared in an educational NES game called Donkey Kong Jr. Math. In the game's two-player mode, the second player controlled different-colored Donkey Kong Jr.

In the game, Donkey Kong Jr. wears a white leotard with a red J printed on the front. On the box of Donkey Kong Jr. cereal, he wears a red shirt with white trim and has a big yellow J.

In Super Mario Kart , Donkey Kong Jr. was in the heavyweight driver class, (along with Bowser) and boasted stats of high top speed, low acceleration, and as his class-name states, a heavy weight. The computer controlled Donkey Kong Jr. character in this game had infinite banana peels at his disposal to use as weapons. These banana peels could be thrown in front of Donkey Kong Jr., or set down behind him.

[edit] Television Appearances

  • Donkey Kong Jr. featured in his own segment of Saturday Supercade, where he and a biker named Bones traveled around the country searching for his missing father (possibly a tie-in to Donkey Kong's own segment, where he traveled around the world trying to escape from Mario). When going in to action, DK Jr. would often yell "Monkey Muscles!" sounding much like Scrappy Doo (the similarity is not surprising, given that they had the same voice actor).
