Doncaster Racecourse (also known as the Town Moor course) is a racecourse in Doncaster, England.

Doncaster is one of the oldest and in terms of physical capacity, one of the largest Racecourses in the Country.

Horse racing first began in Doncaster in the 17th Century on what was then 'Cantley Common'. By 1776 the Race Course had become established and the first recorded meeting of the 'St Leger' stakes took place.

The St. Leger is the world's oldest Classic Horse Race and features in the Horse Racing calendar as the fifth and final Classic of the British Flat racing season. This pride of place every September on the famouse Town Moor course. Renowned for producing racing of the highest order, Doncaster is undoubtedly one of the finest racecourses in Europe.

Doncaster is a left-handed, pear-shaped track of around 1 milefurlongs which is mostly flat. There are courses for Flat racing and National Hunt racing.

Doncaster Racecourse's £32 million refurbishment began in January 2006, this 20 month project will transform the Grade 1 Yorkshire track into one of the most modern and impressive facilities in the country by August 2007.

The new facilities will include, a new five-storey grandstand, exhibition and conference centre which will feature new restaurants, bars and private boxes - with panoramic views stretching across this famous Town Moor track.

The state of the art Exhibition Centre will be on the ground floor of the new grandstand and will have floor space of over 4180 sq metres and a floor to ceiling height of 4.7m, with various alternative rooms and areas ideal for seminars, break-out meetings and individual events. There will also be an abundance of seated catering facilities offering a wide choice of food.

Customers will benefit from easily accessible services, wi-fi internet access, digital technology, event advertising opportunities via the extensive in-situ, state-of-the-art AV installations available for CD/lap-top playback.

A new on-site 62 bed hostel available to exhibitors will be completed in the first phase, soon to be followed by a new on-site 125 bedroom 4* Hotel in the second phase during 2008.

Outside there will be improved venue access and site-wide CCTV monitoring for enhanced client and customer security.

The racecourse is 4 miles from Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield International Airport with daily flights to numerous locations across Europe and beyond including Dublin Eire and Belfast Northern Ireland.

The racecourse is a mile from Doncaster town centre. From the south the A1(M) and M1/M18 are good routes. There are signs to the racecourse from the motorways.

Doncaster station is a major UK Railway Station and is served by Northern Rail, Virgin Trains, GNER, First TransPennine Express, Central Trains, Midland Mainline and Hull Trains. Doncaster is 1 Hour 35 Mins from London Kings Cross or 20 Mins from Sheffield Station (using direct services).

Buses 55, 170 and 171 from the station stop 300 metres from the racecourse itself.
