From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Donald Culross Peattie (June 21, 1898 - November 16, 1964) was a U.S. botanist, naturalist and author. Peattie was born in Chicago, graduated from Harvard University in 1922 and was a botanist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (1922-1924). He was a nature columnist for the Washington Star from 1924-1935.
His writings on nature are marked poetic, sage philosophy, but nevertheless have scientific accuracy. His best known works are the two books on US trees he wrote (out of a planned trilogy), but he also produced children books and traveling books.
The standard botanical author abbreviation Peattie may be attached to plant names he published.
