Don Faurot

Don Faurot (June 23, 1902–October 19, 1995) was a head football coach at the University of Missouri-Columbia during the 1930s and 1940s and is credited with inventing the split-T formation. He was born in Mountain Grove, Missouri.
After coaching, he remained at Missouri in some capacity for a number of years. In November of 1972, the playing surface inside Missouri's Memorial Stadium was named Faurot Field, and when the Missouri Tigers decided to switch back from artificial turf to grass in 1995, Faurot laid the last piece of sod onto the field. Faurot, however, passed away in October of that year at age 93. Today, Faurot Field seats almost 68,400 fans.
