Don is an Indian Hindi film released in 1978. The movie was produced by Nabvriman Irani and directed by Chandra Barot. The music was by Kalyanji Anandji and lyrics by Anjaan. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman, Pran, Iftekhar , Helen and Om Shivpuri, Satyan Kapoo and Pinchoo Kapoor.

[edit] Synopsis
Don (Amitabh Bachchan) is the leader of an underworld gang until Police Officer D'Silva (Iftekhar) tracks him down and kills him. Then Officer D'Silva tracks down a lookalike of Don named Vijay. Vijay impersonates Don to take down the rest of Don's gang while the DSP promises him that he will give a proper education to his wards who are actually the children of Jasjit (Pran).
In the meantime Jasjit comes out of prison after serving his term, only to find Officer having a red diary that would show Vijay's true identity. Officer D'Silva is killed by Malik who is introduced as the interpol officer, but in actual fact the real king of the underworld. It's now a race to retrieve a the DSP's diary in which the DSP has documented his substitution of the real Don with the innocent Vijay...
A new remake of Don - The Chase Begins Again premiered late 2006 starring Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra.

- A Hindi remake Don - The Chase Begins Again starring Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Isha Koppikar and Kareena Kapoor made by Farhan Akhtar was recently released on October 20, 2006.
- The film was first remade in 1979 in Telugu as Yugandhar starring N.T. Rama Rao and Jayasudha. Although some of film tunes were different than the original Hindi film, the tune for the Hindi song Khaike Pan Banaras wala was exactly the same, and it was now titled Oh Rabba Yesukunna Killi.
- A year later, Don was remade again, this time in Tamil as Billa (film) (1980) starring Rajnikanth. This movie also had the remade version of the Khaike Pan Banaras Wala as Vethallaya Pottendi Shakthi Konjam Yerudhad. This blockbuster film helped Rajnikanth achieve Superstar status.
- The movie was also remade in Malayalam as Sobharaj (1986) with Mohanlal.
- Amitabh Bachchan won a Filmfare award for his dual role in the film.
- Asha Bhosle won a Filmfare award, for the song "yeh mera dil".
- Kishore Kumar won a Filmfare award, for the song "Khaike Pan Banaras Wala."
- Pran was paid twice the amount of Amitabh Bachchan. Pran got Rs 500,000 and Amitabh Bachchan was paid Rs 250,000.<needs source>
