[edit] Location map

The map image:LocationDominica.png can be added to the new Dominica page when it is created in the format set out by WikiProject Countries. It is mentioned here so that whoever eventually makes the new page knows that the map already exists. - Vardion 09:19, 26 Oct 2003 (UTC)

PM will need to be changed to Roosevelt Skerrit as soon as he is approved?/installed?. Someone has already changed it on List of national leaders but it doesn't seem to be official quite yet. Rmhermen 21:48, Jan 7, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Caribbean Wikipedians' notice board

I would like to announce the establishment of the Wikipedia:Caribbean Wikipedians' notice board. Anyone with an interest in the Caribbean is welcome to join in. Guettarda 1 July 2005 03:58 (UTC)

[edit] Parishes

Consider merging Parishes of Dominica with Dominica. Rewster 06:15, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

Against. It just needs attention, but I don't know that much about Dominica. Caribbean wikipedia's are trickling in, one from Dominica will fix it any time now. CaribDigita 06:28, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
I've started to expand the articles on the individual parishes. See this page to check out what's happening. --Slgrandson 16:42, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Note from Dominican citizen: The name "Patwa" is considered derogatory by many proponents of the language; it is more correctly referred to as "Kwéyol". 204.188.166.199El_C 08:04, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Photos available (Comment moved from main article)

I have recently returned from a trip that included a day in Dominica. I have a few photos that might be appropriate for this article. They are availible at Yahoo Photo on my account, Veniceslug1. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I would post them myself but I do not know how. Previous unsigned comment was by User:Veniceslug1

[edit] Actually Dominica is 'French' Dominica because

Dominica is sometimes called 'French' Dominica because the Dominican Republic is considered as being 'Spanish' Dominica. To further confuse the world, both are actually republics but 'French' Dominica has named itself (Dominica, the Commonwealth of). Again to confuse the world. What would you call a national of the Dominican Republic? (Think about how it is spelled.) Now on the same mental canvas imagine what you would call someone from 'French' Dominica. Now- think about how they are both spelled. Voila. You have now enjoyed the complexities that both countries undergo. 141.157.162.160 22:50, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] To add links, which represent Dominica

Please, tell me, why do you think these sites is commercial and cannot to be added and represent Dominica: http://www.veselo.info/english/photo/caribbean/dominica/index.html - this page represent images of Dominica island, which i took when i was living here. And all site http://www.veselo.info is my stories about Dominica, but I just afraid it's not good english, but photography do not need english, right? Do you think is a bad quality photography?

http://www.dominica-weekly.com - Dominica News Blog. It's like two dominicans writting this blog now, and why is it commercial? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.81.208.34 (talkcontribs) 2006-08-01 20:46:02 UTC.

When I redid much of the Dominica article ~ 1 year ago I had added many of the links currently there. The general consensus for the Caribbean geography articles is this, links which are good to add tend to be government ones, large media firms of that country, the (official) tourist board/authority and links which only-- focus on that country (rather then sites that just go from country-to-country) or onto several topics, or try to get people to buy a bunch of stuff. The problem that has been found especially with Caribbean countries is one person will post a link. Then someone who is competing with you says they want their site listed, then another person comes and posts a similar site and before you know it there's 40 links of sites that are trying to "sell" vacations, timeshares, obtain the bulkshare of the bookings to that country and so on, or even all kinds of other things about that country which is hardly encylopedic. If you have a link that you think doesn't constitute link spam do just what you're doing, bring it up on the talkpage. Ask others to review it and by all means, don't take anything personal. I have several websites that I do myself that I've opted not to place on the page because although they do seem rather encyclopedic, it would inspire competitors to post their "personal" sites too. Which is not what Wikipedia is about. CaribDigita 03:09, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
I support what CaribDigita says. One reason I removed your links is that you were linking the same site in other articles too. It is inappropriate to add your own site or attempt to promote any website on Wikipedia; please see Wikipedia:External links. This does not imply that your site has bad quality photography, only that it does not belong in Wikipedia unless a neutral editor adds it. Wmahan. 06:36, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] To last my post

Thank you for complete comments. I will keep it on mind. Continue your great work.

[edit] Dominica dive photos

Hi. I added a link to a dedicated page on Dominica's diving. It was removed and I wasn't sure why. I lived there for 2 years while studying medicince and I collected many dive photos from the North. Would someone else please review the page and list it if it is appropriate.

[edit] Proposed WikiProject

There is now a proposed WikiProject for the Caribbean area, including Dominica, at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Caribbean. Interested parties should add their names there so we can determine if there is enough interest to start such a project in earnest. Thank you for your attention.
