Dolphin Music, part of Dolphin Enterprises Europe Ltd first began in Liverpool, England in 1999.
While still at Liverpool University, Robert Williams and Jason Tavaria used their credit cards and £1,500 of their own money to set up a company that sells musical equipment by mail order and over the internet. Today Dolphin Music sells products from 300 different suppliers such as Yamaha and Shure to home users, professionals and the education sector. In 2004 the company added sales through eBay and last year opened a shop in Liverpool specialising in rare guitars from the likes of Gibson, Fender and Rickenbacker. Sales have grown 176% a year from £267,000 in 2003 to £5.6m in 2006.
