[edit] Story

All of the Dolls were teenage girls of around 16 who were captured by Shadoloo and brainwashed to be M. Bison's assassins and bodyguards. Cammy was made into a female clone of Bison, but was the same age and acted the same way the others. They were completely loyal to Bison and acted and talked like robots. Originally the Dolls could not live if Bison had died. The brainwashing corrupted them so much they would have collapsed and died. They were high ranking members in Shadoloo, only lower than Bison and possibly Balrog, Vega and Sagat. Eventually, Cammy broke free from Bison's mind control and managed to do the same for the others. When Bison appeared, they collectively attacked him. Bison informed Cammy that she was his clone, and that if he died, she would as well. Cammy fought against his psychic probing and rescued the Dolls from Bison's control with the Psycho Drive. Cammy led the Dolls out the Shadoloo base and then fell unconscious, rendering the dolls in a state of amnesia. It is unknown if the Dolls survived or regained their memories.

[edit] The Dolls in the Udon comic

In the Udon comic, Noembelu and Juli are both being sought after by T. Hawk. Noembelu is a member of the Thunderfoot Tribe whose family is close to T. Hawk. Juli is the daughter of a German doctor who provided care for the Thunderfoot Tribe. The doctor was found murdered and Juli disappeared. According to T. Hawk, Noembelu's name is Little Eagle. As for Juni she was kidnapped directly from Germany. Supposedly her brainwashing is the most complete of all the Dolls and her first mission, ordered by Bison to test her loyalty, is to murder her own family. She accomplished her mission flawlessly.

[edit] Trivia

  • The Dolls were possibly inspired by the two novel series Cammy History by Yuka Minakawa, although Capcom hasn't made it official.
  • Excluding Cammy, the Dolls are named after the months of the year, in their home country's language. Enero (January), Février (February), März (March), Aprile (April), Satsuki (May), Juni (June), Juli (July), Santamu (August), Jianyu (September), Xiayu (October), Noembelu (November) and Decapre (December).
  • In the sourcebook All About Street Fighter Alpha 3, Sakura is revealed to have originally been planned to be part of the Dolls project, but was able to evade capture.
  • In T. Hawk's story in Alpha 3, he's looking for Noembelu and not Juli. For some reason Capcom didn't sprite Noembelu and opted to use Juli instead. This led to a lot of confusion among fans. Also even though it's most likely Juli, either one of these Dolls could be named Julia, which is also the name of Guile's wife in Japan (she is known as Jane in the US).
  • In the non-canon Namco x Capcom, Juli almost regains her memory by saying, "I am... Juli... a... Hawk?" right before her demise due to the full effect of her mind control. This is strange, considering it was Noembelu and not Juli who was taken from T. Hawk's tribe. More than likely this was an error on Namco's part.
  • There are several errors in the names of the Dolls:
    • Enero: The katakana of this name should be エネーロ eneero, and not エーネロ eenero, to match with Spanish pronunciation.
    • Noembelu: This is a really strange name. The katakana shows that nowenberu is actually closer to a fictional American English Nowember or a classical Latin November or Nouember, than to a modern Spanish Noviembre. Among the names of the 12 Dolls this is probably the longest and most difficult to pronounce correctly in Japanese.
    • Santamu: Although being Vietnamese, Santamu's name is written in romaji transliterated from katakana. In quoc-ngu (Vietnamese script), the Vietnamese word for August (the meaning of Santamu's name) is "Thang Tam", and because the "th" and "s" sounds are interchangeable in Japanese, the syllables may have unintentionally been mistransliterated. Due to her skin tone, hair style, and the fact she carries a spear and a monkey, many fans have argued that her name mistranslation may be due to her being African instead of Vietnamese. This is a possibility since a similar name, "Sentamu" is a semi common surname among some Africans.
    • Decapre: Her name should be Decabr' (декабрь).
  • Juni and Juli seem to have a sisterly bond as is hinted at in artwork and Juni's ending.
