In 1991, after seeing the growing world demand for tea, the Indian government through Tea Board of India made a decision and declared five districts of Purnia administrative division of Bihar province as non-traditional tea growing areas. With this declaration they invited enterprenuers from nearby Bengal to plant tea bushes in order to help local economic development.
During early 2005, an experiment was carried out in the tea plantations on the banks of the Doke river.
Results were very encouraging and the western world immediately recognised this tea because of its special and unique fruity smell and refreshing flavour. Growing production and popularity of this tea is taking it to worldwide tea consuming areas, since White Tea is considered as Rolls Royce of the tea world. Some tea planters have started marking this tea as "Tea - from the land of Buddha" since Bihar is called the land of Buddha. As the story goes, a member of Lo family mediatated on the banks of this river and Buddha gifted this tea to him.
Doke White Tea is a unique tea. It is organically grown on the banks of the Doke river in a garden planted by the planters for the benefit of tea workers.
