[edit] Plot

The Dog Star, Sirius, is convicted of a crime and sentenced to one mortal lifetime in the body of an earthly dog. If he can recover the mysterious Zoi his sentence will be commuted; Sirius' one chance to return to the heavens. After surviving being thrown into the river in a sack, Sirius meets Kathleen. Kathleen takes him home and feeds him and slowly Sirius learns the difference between "walk" and "talk" and the other important concepts he will need if he is to recover the Zoi.

Many references are made to mythology, particularly Welsh mythology in the appearance and actions of the dogs (see Cŵn Annwn) and several later characters such as Arawn.
