[edit] Biograph

B. Keith Murphy, Ph. D. (born September 28, 1969) is an American college professor, scholar, researcher, literary critic, historian, journalist, and author.

He was born in Grayson, Kentucky. After a brief stint as an “Air Force brat” Keith was raised on a tobacco farm in Eastern Kentucky. He received a BA in Radio-Television from Morehead State University, a MA in Speech Communication from Miami University (Ohio) and a doctorate in Rhetoric from Ohio University. Keith coached intercollegiate speech and debate for over 15 years. He taught for seven years at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne before heading south for warmer weather. He has spent the last ten years teaching Literature, Composition, Speech, Mass Communication and Philosophy for Fort Valley State University in Georgia where he is a full professor in the English Department. Along the way, Keith has taught at the college level for over 20 years, worked over ten years in radio, and he has worked as an actor, a magician, a webmaster, and a cave guide. As an author he has penned 5 book chapters, 11 articles for academic journals, 20 articles for academic presentations, 52 articles for reference books, 17 articles for popular magazines and writes as a stringer for arenafan.com. He and his wife Kathy run bunniwerks, a domestic rabbit rescue operation (http://www.bunniwerks.org) and currently care for 14 abandoned or abused buns. Keith has won numerous awards for teaching, having been named to “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers” 6 times. He received a faculty research grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities in 2003. In December of 2004, he was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel. Murphy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in the fall of 2003. (He also finds it difficult to write about himself in the third person.)

[edit] Writing Background

Writing Background: My writing background is both diverse and eclectic. I began writing for radio; writing commercials as well as scripts for news and sports casts as well as documentaries. From there I discovered the world of academic writing. I have been successful in that arena as well, beginning with a master’s thesis and a doctoral dissertation to book chapters and articles in academic journals and reference books. More recently I have been writing articles for popular publications and web-based periodicals. I have also served as an editor for both academic journals and a “web ‘zine” and, as a result, I am aware of the unique burdens and demands that are part and parcel of the editor’s life. I am proud to say that I have never missed a deadline and I am relatively ego-less about my work. In fact when a magazine editor got my last name wrong on an article I wrote, instead of exploding, I looked at the error as an opportunity to establish a pseudonym.
