[edit] Identity and Frames of Reference
Hello and welcome to a multiversal character.
My Name is Daniel Pisano, I was born in 1973 in Frankfurt am Main in Germany of Italian parents, first generation immigrants to Germany in the 1960s. I live in Darmstadt, Germany while retaining my Italian citizenship. My experienced nationality, however is Gertalian - a term invented by Mel "syngin" Boyce of Australia by combining "German" with "Italian".
I am commonly known and referred to as docpi or The Gertalian in most communities that I participate in. This includes the World Wide Web, several IRC networks and the Free/Libre/Open Source community as well as parts of the scientific community.
[edit] Education and Occupation
I am (still) a student of physics a the Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany with a bachelor's degree in physics earned in 1997.
For a living, I work as a professional translator and interpreter of German, English, Italian, French and Spanish for individuals, companies and governmental offices including state courts and have been certified as a translator of English by the State of Hesse.
I also service personal computers, mostly disinfecting or resurrecting them.
[edit] Interests
Being what Richard Phillips Feynman used to describe himself, a curious character, the interests are many:
- Communication
- Creative Expression
- Scientific Exploration
- Physics
- Nuclear physics
- Optics
- Non-linear dynamics also known as Chaos Theory
- Astronomy
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Data Processing
- Personal Computing
- Government and Politics
[edit] Web Identities and Alternative Screen Names and Nicknames
Of the many websites that I would like to maintain, only a few early incarnations have appeared on the web so far:
- My profile on flickr is doc-click.
- My main (and so far only) weblog is registered with Wordpress as Unlicensed Unsilence.
An alternative and now abandoned nickname of mine used to be drpi. It was occasionally falsely interpreted as drippy or droopy while its real meaning is "Dr. π - the mathematical symbol Greek pi with a preceding academic title". I used to use drpi in my early college days in the 1990s at the Darmstadt University of Technology as my main e-mail account and also as my nickname on IRC until four-letter usernames were discontinued at the university.

[edit] Origin of the nickname docpi
My nickname docpi was invented by my high-school friend, Hendrik Behrens, following the events during a school trip to London, UK in Spring of 1990. A picture exists of the moment of first publication of the first incarnation of the nickname delta pi, but it is not spectacular. Really.
[edit] Other Persons Using the Nickname docpi on the Internet
There has been at least one other user on the net using the nickname docpi in the second half of the 1990s. I noticed this by not having been able to register the nickname with some main e-mail services, web portals or websites receiving the error message that that screen name was already in use by someone else by the time that I wanted to claim it for myself. The identity of this person (or persons) remains unkown. Also, occasional checking with Google revealed no activity under the nickname docpi from anyone else but me.
[edit] Other Contemporary Persons Named Daniel Pisano With Some Internet Presence
Despite my being of Italian origin, my first name is spelled Daniel, without a trailing e, as would be common in its Italian spelling. This greatly reduces the number of people bearing the same combination of first and last name.
For the record, my full name on my birth certificate is Daniel Karl Alfred Pisano. I know of no other person bearing this identical name. There is however a number of other persons with some presence on the web bearing the name Daniel Pisano that I have discovered through Google:
- Daniel J. Pisano III, astronomer, Australia.
- Since I am also pursuing a career in astronomy, I contacted him by telephone on the matter of our name in the late 1990s in order to avoid possible confusion in the attribution of future publications in this field. We agreed to use our middle initials in future publications with scientific context.
- Daniel Pisano, winemaker, Uruguay.
- He is the reason why I get so much Latin American SPAM e-mail messages. The spammers obviously pooled our e-mail addresses in their databases under our common name. Not contacted yet.
- Daniel Pisano, game software programmer, Switzerland.
- Nothing more is known about him and he also has not replied to my attempts to establish contact through e-mail.
- F. Daniel Pisano DDS, dentist, Malvern, PA, USA.
- New discovery as of June 2006. Not contacted yet.[Died July 2006]
- Daniel "iskander" Pisano, Los Angeles, CA, USA.
- Writes Travelogues. New discovery as of June 2006. Not contacted yet.
- Two or three other Daniel Pisanos
- were featured once in my very first search conducted on Google in the mid-1990s but have disappeared from Google's results since then.
