Doctor Andonuts

Doctor Andonuts (アンドーナッツ博士, Andōnattsu Hakushi^?) is a fictional character who first appeared in EarthBound (Mother 2) for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and later returned in (Mother 3) for the Game Boy Advance.

Doctor Andonuts is Jeff's father. When Jeff leaves Snowwood, his boarding school, and finds his father's lab, Doctor Andonuts reveals that he hasn't seen Jeff in 10 years. He doesn't seem to be a very good father figure to Jeff, but he does come through with some of his inventions. He also lets a docile caveman live in his laboratory later in the game.

In Mother 3, he was taken from his time(199X) to the future by Pokey and forced to work for him, creating Chimeras and other inventions.

[edit] Sky Runner

The Sky Runner is a UFO-styled aircraft that Doctor Andonuts made that Jeff uses to get to Threed to find Ness and Paula. It crash lands and is later fixed up so the gang can make their way to Summers. However, it crashes again, and while Ness and his friends are unhurt, a few chunks of debris are all that remain of it.

The original Japanese name was Sky Walker, but that would have caused messy lawsuits. (Luke Skywalker)

[edit] Instant Revitalization Device

As the name implies, the IRD instantly revitalizes whomever uses it. In EarthBound it is the equivalent of staying a night at a hotel, but Jeff cannot work on inventions when the group uses it.

In Mother 3, this invention was used by the Pig Army (and by the main characters).

[edit] Phase Distorter

Dr. Andonuts's last invention in EarthBound. He works in conjunction with the Mr. Saturn population and Apple Kid, another inventor. The Phase Distorter (Space Tunnel in Japan) takes on the appearance of a Mr. Saturn and requires Zexonyte to operate. Ness and friends must have their souls transmitted into robotic bodies to use this invention, as it would kill their human bodies.

Once the Phase Distorter is used and Ness and friends arrive at their destination, it can be used to heal and to call Ness's father (who believes that the now robotic Ness has a bad cold, and has no idea from where or when he is calling).

There are three Phase Distorters in all; one that Pokey steals, one that transports Ness's group to Giygas's lair in the present, and one that takes them to the past.

A Phase Disorter, perhaps the one Pokey used, is seen during the boat ride to Pokey's chambers in Mother 3.

[edit] Absolutely Safe Machine

Forced into working for Pokey, Dr. Andonuts constructs a machine that is completely indestructible keeping the user "absolutely safe" no matter what. However, Dr. Andonuts has secretly added an additional surprise in that it can never open up after disaster is averted (at least, not easily).

In Mother 3, all of the Chimeras you encounter (with a few exceptions) are created by or because of Dr. Andonuts, albeit against his will.
