Dobrich Province
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dobrich Province is a province in northeastern Bulgaria. Its major city is Dobrich. In 1949, Dobrich (the city) was named Tolbukhin in honor of the Soviet General Fedor Tolbukhin, whose 3rd Ukrainian Front was responsible for liberating the region from Nazi rule. Tolbukhin province was created in a local government reorganization in 1959. The names of both the city and the province reverted to Dobrich in 1990, after the fall of Communism. In the centre of the city is "the old city", a small district of reconstructed renaissance buildings. The city is an agricultural centre for all of northern Bulgaria.
