DNA Lounge
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The DNA Lounge is a popular late-night San Francisco nightclub in the SoMa district, founded in the 1980s, which caters particularly to the digerati scene. It was purchased in 2000 by celebrated hacker Jamie Zawinski, who spearheaded a successful grassroots effort to maintain its many late-night permits. At the time, his plan was to make it a "total nerd space".
When not functioning as a nightclub, the DNA Lounge regularly hosts hacker conventions such as CodeCon. The release of Mozilla 1.0 was celebrated there in 2002.
The DNA lounge receives a lot of criticism for streaming videos of their concerts via their website. Some bands have even refused to play there because of this reason.
