DJMAX

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DJMAX is a MMO Rhythm Action Game created by the South Korean company Pentavision Entertainment. It has been compared to O2Jam, which similarly allows various players to play music games together and chat using different avatars. In addition, DJMAX has its own sets of in-game skins, and most avatars have their unique stat modifiers.

As of August 2005, DJMAX is in its second phase, E.S. (Emotional Sound) Vol. 2.

DJMax currently has two different servers, one each for Japanese and Korean version of the game. The two different versions also have separate song listings.

A single-player version of the game for the Sony PSP has been released in January 2006.

In July 2006, China launched their version of DJMAX, which is currently free to play.

As of winter 2007, Pentavision will launching be DJMAX Portable 2, it contains 60 songs, and over 150 songs in its OST mode.

[edit] Gameplay

The player must press their keys in time with the melody, rhythm or beat, as indicated by scrolling symbols. In this way it is similar to Beatmania IIDX, but most Korean players relate to the game more as "EZ2DJ Online" for most of its composers came from that game. There are two types of key patterns, 5-Key and 7-Key, and three basic difficulty levels: easy, normal and hard. There is a special difficulty level called "SC" (Super Crazy) for certain songs. DJMAX players can play by themselves in Training Mode, or challenge with other online players through the Battle Mode. Two default key layouts are provided for both 5-Key and 7-Key, but the player is also allowed to customized their own key layouts.

Each song is accompanied by a simple background animation. As an example here, "End of the Moonlight" includes scenes of an anime winged girl flying across a night sky.

[edit] Song List

There is a different song listing for Japanese version of the DJMax game. The list provided below is the up-to-date as of 9/8/2005 for the Korean version. It is currently listed in alphabetical order of the name of the composer.

As of September 21, 2006, there are a total of 194 songs in the Korean version - including premium songs. New songs are released at an average rate or 3-7 a month.

[edit] EX Difficulty

A recent discovery through a DJMAX simulator known as "Synth'N" has revealed an unreleased difficulty known as EX. There are currently three songs with this difficulty, which are Cherokee, Dancin' Planet, and Enemy Storm. It has not yet been determined if this is a difficulty to come in the future (DJMAX vol. 3) and these are beta songs of it, or if this is a difficulty that was scrapped long ago. These songs can only be played via Synth'N.
