Dixie Kiefer

Dixie Kiefer was the captain of the USS Ticonderoga. On January 21, 1945 the ship was attacked by two Japanese kamikaze pilots resulting in 144 men killed and 200 injured including Captain Kiefer. He suffered from 65 different wounds and a broken arm. He was raised to the rank of honorary commodore in a ceremony at Rockefeller Center.
