Divine magic (Dungeons & Dragons)

[edit] Description of Divine Magic
Unlike arcane magic, divine magic tends to heal more than harm and is generally the more pacifistic of the two types. However, divine magic has offensive spells, such as the druid-only Fire Storm or the cleric-only Harm. These spells tend to be comparable to similar arcane spells.
With the exception of the ranger, a divine spellcaster's spellcasting abilities can be revoked if he or she does not adhere to a code specified by his class and/or deity (for example, a druid ceasing to honor nature, or a paladin committing an evil act).
[edit] Clerics and Paladins
A cleric or paladin must pray to their particular deity, and be granted certain powers or spells. The nature of these spells often relate to the type of god worshipped (i.e., plant spells from a nature god, defensive spells from a war god, etc.).
All clerics are granted a large variety of spells that they do not need a specific deity for. A cleric's domains determine what other spells they can cast beyond this wide assortment, and several of these domains grant spells otherwise restricted to arcane spellcasters.
[edit] Druids and Rangers
A druid or a ranger gets their divine magic from nature itself. Accordingly, they cast spells that relate more to animals, the weather, and other natural phenomena.
Druids tend to have more offensive spells than the cleric, ranger, or paladin.
