Dithiane

A dithiane is a heterocyclic compound comprised of a cyclohexane core structure with two methylene units replaced by sulfur. The parent compounds are 1,2-dithiane, 1,3-dithiane and 1,4-dithiane.
1,3-dithianes are relevant in umpolung reactions. They are also important as a protecting group of a carbonyl containg compound due to its inertness to many conditions.
