Distorted Penguins

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Distorted Penguins are a ska band that started out in Keyser, WV. They've released a number of albums and toured in the US.

The Distorted Penguins (commonly abbreviated DP) started as the band 'Feedback' in 1996, but when recording their first album they changed their name to the Distorted Penguins (Feedback had been the original name for U2). Their first album "Ain't Got None Monies" was a success, establishing a fan base across West Virginia, southern Pennsylvania and Maryland. They performed on WWVU, West Virginia University's college radio station. DP broke into Pittsburgh by opening for the band "Buzz Poets".

In 2000, lead singer Dave Mussen passed away. The band remained together, and after a line-up change, released "Magic" in 2001. DP continued touring the tri-state area, hitting a spot in Vans' Warped Tour in Pittsburgh, and opening for the bands Blues Traveler, Reel Big Fish, and 2 Skinnee J's.

In 2001, DP released new material in "What Would Your Mother Say?", a 5 track EP. The band received critical acclaim, reaching an international fan base, with over 385,000 downloaded mP3s on mp3.com.[citation needed] Their music has been heard on MTV's Undressed. DP has also contributed their music to compilation CDs for video games, independent movies, and to help raise money for such causes as the American Red Cross, teen suicide prevention, and domestic violence.

In the summer of 2003, the Distorted Penguins did a 19 state tour, visiting fans who had emailed them.[citation needed]
