Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII- Original Soundtrack is a soundtrack album of video game music from the action role-playing game Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-, produced by Square Enix Co. Ltd. for the PlayStation 2 video game console. The album contains musical tracks from the game, composed by Masashi Hamauzu. Yoshihisa Hirano provides orchestration and Koji Haishima conducts the Tokyo Philharmonic used for about half of the soundtrack. Vocals were performed by Gackt Camui for the theme songs, "Longing" and "Redemption". The soundtrack was released on the 15th of February, 2005 in Japan with a price of ¥ 3,300 bearing the catalog number CRCP-40139/40 and the limited edition of the soundtrack was also released on the same day with a price of ¥3,900 bearing the catalog number CRCP-40137/38. The limited edition of the soundtrack includes a "Cerberus Complete Case" deluxe box which is designed to hold the soundtrack along with the Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII- PS2 game and the limited edition of Gackt's single for the game, "REDEMPTION".
The soundtrack marks new territory for Hamauzu, combining his signature impressionist chords, jazz and electronic ambience, marches and instrumental solos with a dark, cinematic overall tone. It is unknown, however, the extent of arrangement in Hirano's highly literate orchestration, although Hamauzu has scored himself before.
It should also be noted that, unlike other components of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, Dirge of Cerberus features no music, rearranged or otherwise, from the original game.
