[edit] Purpose
The diocese template is for use in articles about dioceses. It provides a common standard for displaying data about dioceses.
[edit] Usage
{{Diocese |name=name of the diocese #REQUIRED |image=image of the arms or logo of the diocese |province=name of the ecclesiastical province in which the diocese belongs #REQUIRED |bishop=name of the current bishop OR link to article on the bishops of the diocese #REQUIRED |cathedral=name of the diocese's cathedral(s) #REQUIRED |archdeaconries=names of the archdeaconries of the diocese ) |deaneries=names of the deaneries of the diocese ) only one of these parameters is used |subdivisions=names of the subdivisions of the diocese ) |parishes=number of parishes in the diocese ) only one of these parameters is used |congregations=number of congregations in the diocese ) |members=the number of members of the diocese ) only one of these parameters is used |churches=the number of church buildings in the diocese ) |website=full HTTP address of the diocesan website without wiki markup }}
[edit] Tips on usage
This template uses ParserFunctions that allow it be more flexible that usual templates. Some of the parameters are required: they are {{{name}}}, {{{province}}}, {{{bishop}}} and {{{cathedral}}}. Two of the parameters is completely optional: you do not have to give {{{image}}} or {{{website}}} if they are not available. To name the major subdivisions of a diocese use either {{{archdeaconries}}}, {{{deaneries}}} or the default {{{subdivisions}}}, and the left-hand column will show the appropriate title. As different diocese give their statistics differently you can use {{{congregations}}} and {{{members}}} (which seems to be the ECUSA standard), or {{{parishes}}} and {{{churches}}} (which seems to be the C of E standard). The default is for {{{parishes}}} and {{{members}}}, which may be appropriate in the long run.

[edit] Parents and seats
I've added two optional parameters at request. They are {{{parent}}} for the older diocese out of which the current one was formed, and {{{seats}}} for former seats of the diocese. — Gareth Hughes 14:41, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
Help: There are at least six diocese in the Anglican Providance of The United States of America (ECUSA) requesting alternative primatial oversight from Canterbury. Note: We also use the Term "Providance" within ECUSA for a loose coalition of dioceses. I request that somehow "The Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth" can be differentiated from what may become "The Anglican Diocese of some geographical area in Northeast Texas." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ed Adcock (talk • contribs) 22:14, 15 July 2006.
- The situaton of the dioceses of ECUSA that are threatening schism is still in flux. There are legal issues about the property, both buildings and identity, of the schismatics. This template is used to provide information about dioceses, and can still do that whether a diocese breaks with its member church, and whether that member church sets up a new body to continue its ministry. — Gareth Hughes 12:44, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
