Diocese of Pannonia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Diocese of Pannonia was a diocese of the Roman Empire. It was part of the Praetorian prefecture of Illyricum. The Diocese of Pannonia included the Roman provinces of Pannonia Prima, Pannonia Valeria, Pannonia Savia, Pannonia Secunda, Dalmatia, Noricum Mediterraneum, and Noricum Ripensis. The seat of the prefects of diocese was Sirmium.
Diocese of Pannonia was one of the two dioceses in the eastern quarters of the Tetrarchy not belonging to the cultural Greek half of the empire (the other was Dacia), and was transferred to the western empire when Theodosius I fixed the final split of the two empires in 395.
