Dina City

Dina (Urdu: دینہ ) is a town situated in Jhelum District, Punjab, Pakistan.
Dina is located Grand Trunk Road in the northern part of Jhelum District. In 1977, the office of the municipal committee was established at Dina, however it is now become a Tehsil of Jhelum District. The land consists of about 21,880 acres. It is approx.10 miles north of Jhelum City, where there is a junction with the road to Mangla Dam and Rohtas fort. It is a rapidly expanding town, the home to many expatriate Pakistanis, and relatively very expensive. Tilla Jogian is the highest peak in Jhelum and is 35 kilometers south from Dina. Dina City is divided into 2 Union ConcilsUC 22 and UC 23. Its population is about 40,000. Dina is the City of Immigrants. The main Properties are owned by Mian Family . The main source of income in Dina is Forien Exchange because 60% of people are setteled in abroad. The model village of Mota Gharbi is Six kilometers west off the Grand Trunk Road.

Very little is known about the origins of the city. Some say that it was named after the saint Baba Din Muhammad Shaheed. Others claim that the name derives from Din Muhammad, the grandfather of the famous Punjabi poet and saint, Hazrat Mian Muhammad Bakhash. However, there is no historical evidence to support such claims.
The city was a well known transit camp in ancient times. A nine metre long grave near a torrent Tempra on GT road is located near an ancient camping spot.
[edit] The Mausoleum of Baba Din Muhammad Shaheed
This is situated in a Mohalla Domeli on a high place and can be seen from Grand Trunk Road. The city Dina took its name from this saint. Baba Din Muhammad Shaheed's real name was Syed Amir Hussain Shah Bukhari. Baba Din's homeland is Ganj-ul ul-Behr or Choa- Ganj- Ali Shah. He left this village and settled at nullah sayddan in Kashmir valley. Baba Din came in Dina city about in 1950. Baba Din's became very pious Muslim. Baba Din died in October 18, 1957.
