Talk:Dimetric projection
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The simulation games mentioned (as well as the Civilization series)use a very specific dimetric projection--the grid is always twice as wide as it is tall. (Ref: http://moonsims.asi.org/tech/objects-4.html) You get that view by rotating the object of interest by 45 degrees in the horizontal plan, then view from an infinite distance 30 degrees above the horizontal plane.
The 2:1 ratio (as well as having a height and width in even powers of 2) avoids a lot of floating point operations when you're painting the image on the screen. Is there a name for that specific type of projection? Greg 06:00, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
