Dilma Rousseff

Dilma Rousseff is a Brazilian politician and former guerilla fighter. She was appointed Energy Minister by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Lula) in his first cabinet in 2003. On June 15, 2005 she was appointed Lula's Chief of Staff.

Rousseff was a former guerilla fighter against the military dictatorship in Brazil between 1969 and 1985. She suffered torture and three years in jail. [1]

As a member of the left-wing Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) or Workers Party she served as Rio Grande de Sul state secretary of Finance (1986-83) and state secretary of Mines, Energy and Communications (1993-94). [2] President Lula appointed her to his cabinet in 2003 as Energy Minister, and in 2005 she was appointed his Chief of Staff.
