[edit] About Me
A 60-something proto-nerd, I was raised as a Christian Scientist and raised in the proverbial theatre trunk (now there's a combination.) I'm a jack-of-all-trades and master of none, which meant I became a computer systems administrator.
[edit] Wikipedia Activities
Currently I'm still familiarizing myself with the Wikipedia rules, tools and procedures. So far I have the following notes:
- Wikipedia ought to be (well, duh) an Encyclopedia, not a soapbox, a forum, a usenet news group or a battleground. I'm inclined to want to get rid of article cruft that's not relevant to the subject of the article.
- I try to take the position of someone genuinely looking for information (which I often am.) Do I want every possible issue related to a subject or just an overview with the option to go on to more detailed aspects of the subject?
- Multiple differing points of view are not equal to NPOV. NPOV (to me) means neutral and objective. There are an indeterminate number of points of view on any subject, and including them all just leads to information overload.
- I try to stay away from contributing to articles about which I know nothing or, worse, know enough to have a specific point of view. It's important here to be aware of your own blind spots.
