Talk:Dietrich von Bern
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Moved the following paragraph:
"Bern" is Verona.
to this talk page as I do not understand what this is supposed to mean? RedWolf 23:55, Dec 23, 2003 (UTC)
- It means that the city called "Bern" that Dietrich is named after is actually the city of Verona. He has nothing to do with the city in Switzerland that is called Bern (or Berne) nowadays. "Bern" is simply a germanicized version of "Verona". Chl 22:23, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Ritter-Schaumburg localized Berne as Bonn. The new localization of Berne as Varne near Aachen is by Rolf Badenhausen.
[edit] New material
The material from the EB is useful. It would be good to have a summary of the legend - the references to individual works will be pretty cryptic to people who don't know them.
Also, I don't feel the Ritter-Schaumberg stuff should be left unchallenged, as if it's uncontroversial. Even if the specific claims aren't discussed, the fact that it has received a hostile reception from scholars should be documented. --Pfold 12:04, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
