Die Ruinen Von Athen Overture

The overture to Die Ruinen von Athen (op.113), is the overture to the incidental music, written by Ludwig Van Beethoven, to an 1811 play of the same name The Ruins of Athens. Perhaps the best-known music from Die Ruinen von Athen (The Ruins of Athens, in English) is the Turkish March, a theme that many who are not even avid classical music listeners are familiar with. Incidentally, this theme achieved notorious fame in Latin America after it was used (modified) as the opening theme for the Mexican, highly succesful TV comedy Chespirito.
In 1822, a second overture was written for the same play. It was composed especially for the reopening of Vienna's Josefstadter Theatre in 1822. The second overture is known as the Consecration of the House Overture.
