Dictionary of Canadian Biography
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Dictionary of Canadian Biography (DCB) is a dictionary of biographical entries for individuals that have contributed to the History of Canada. The DCB, which was initiated in 1959, is a collaboration between the University of Toronto and Université Laval. The project was undertaken following a bequest to the University of Toronto from businessman James Nicholson for the establishment of a Canadian version of the United Kingdom's well known Dictionary of National Biography. George Ramsay Cook has since 1989 served as the general editor, while Réal Bélanger is the current directeur général adjoint.
The first volume was published in 1966.
The online version of the DCB (as of May 2005) comprises nearly 8,000 biographies.
