"Diary of an Unborn Child" is a song by Christian artist Mark Fox that was released on his album Lil' Markie Volume 1. He sings the song, like most of his other works, in a high-pitched, child-like voice.
[edit] Plot
The song is the "diary" of an unborn child from its conception to its abortion. In between, the unborn child chronologizes his development. The child expresses, among other things, his excitement to see the real world, his desire to be named "Andy" (he comments that his parents, not knowing his gender, are probably calling him Barbara), and, most frequently, his desire to meet his mother. Most of the song is actually spoken, and not sung. Only after "Andy" is aborted does he actually begin to sing. The lyrics of the sung portion are as follows:
Why did you kill me, Mommy?
When God made me special for you?
I really wanted to see you
And put my little arms around you.
(At this point, "Andy" begins to fight back tears as he sings)
Why did you kill me, Mommy?
Because I thought you really cared for me.
And I wonder what I would have grown up to be.
I guess I’ll never know
'Cause Mommy, you killed me.[1]
[edit] Reactions to Song
The reactions to this song have been mixed. Many in the pro-life movement use the song, or minor variations of it, as justification for their policies.[2].
However, the song, and Fox's work in general, has arguably gained most of its recognition in the pro-choice blogosphere, where people often post it as an unintentionally amusing form of black humor.[3]
