DeWitt is a town in Onondaga County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the town population was 24,071. The town is named after Moses DeWitt.
The Town of DeWitt is located east of the City of Syracuse and borders the city on its east side. Most of the town is a suburb of Syracuse.

DeWitt was part of the Central New York Military Tract. The first settlers arrived around 1789.
The Erie Canal progressed through the town in 1825. DeWitt was formed in 1835 from the Town of Manlius.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 87.8 km² (33.9 mi²). 87.7 km² (33.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (0.15%) is water.

Interstate 481 is major highway in DeWitt crossing the center of the town, turning northward along the east side of DeWitt. I-481 intersects Interstate 690 in the eastern part of the town and Interstate 90 (New York State Thruway) in the northeast part of the town.
New York State Route 92 conjoined with New York State Route 5 intersects I-481 in the east part of DeWitt.New York State Route 91 intersects New York State Route 173 at Jamesville near the south town line. New York State Route 298 crosses the north part of the town.

As of the census² of 2000, there were 24,071 people, 10,068 households, and 6,503 families residing in the town. The population density was 274.6/km² (711.0/mi²). There were 10,694 housing units at an average density of 122.0/km² (315.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 89.70% White, 4.89% African American, 2.98% Asian, 0.56% Native American, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 1.58% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.35% of the population.
There were 10,068 households out of which 30.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.2% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.4% were non-families. 30.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.94.
In the town the population was spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 18.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 91.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $46,759, and the median income for a family was $60,325. Males had a median income of $45,926 versus $29,797 for females. The per capita income for the town was $29,198. About 4.7% of families and 7.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.4% of those under age 18 and 3.7% of those age 65 or over.

- Syracuse Hancock International Airport -- Half the airport is in the northwest part of DeWitt.
- Jamesville -- A hamlet in the south of DeWitt on NY-173.
- Oot Park -- A hamlet by the east town line.
