Devil's beatin' his wife

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Devil's beatin' his wife" is an expression which refers to rain while the sun shines. This expression is common in the southeastern United States. The rain represents the tears of the Devil's wife. This phenomenon has other names elsewhere in the world, such as sunshower. These conditions often lead to the appearance of a rainbow.

This expression is short for "The devil’s behind his kitchen door beating his wife with a frying pan."

In Korea, one says "Tigers are getting married", when it rains during sunshine.
