Devastation is a first-person shooter game released in February 2003. It was developed by Digitalo Studios.

Set in a post-apocalyptic Earth, where survival and ultimate dominance are all that matters, Devastation is a high action, teamplay oriented first person shooter. Powered by heavily modified, next generation Unreal Engine technology, it pits teams of rebelling street fighters, gang leaders, mercenaries and ex-soldiers against overwhelming armies of high-tech corporate troopers.

The year is 2075. Instead of a bright and peaceful utopia, a corrupt mega-corporation named Grathius Inc. controls the world by force, using pacification squads to kill any who oppose them.

You are Flynn Haskell, the leader of a small band of resistance fighters determined to rid the world of Grathius and their evil schemes. You have to stop focusing on small-scale objectives and take the fight for freedom all the way to the top.

It just so happens the pac-squad oppressors have a nanotechnology cloning machine developed by Grathius' scientists to resurrect fallen troops.

Incredible Hollywood-style explosions and special effects showcase awesome particle physics including explosive headshots, flowing water, amazing weapon effects, realistic fire, ragdoll deaths and blood - lots of blood! Next generation AI gives enemies micro-behaviour and a heightened awareness that makes them seem almost too real. A dynamic tactical component allows you to decide how much control to exert over non-player character teammates. Give individual commands or none at all to co-ordinate an eight person attack or just go in guns blazing! In the completely interactive environments, everything can be used, destroyed or manipulated. Set traps with garbage or use broken bottles to slash your way to victory! The choice of 30 weapons includes machine guns, swords, handguns, sniper weapons and incredible Rat Drones that allow players to 'become' weapons. There are 32 massive photorealistic levels based on real-world textures including 20 single-player and 12 multi-player maps set in four environments. The objective-based single player campaign calls for special skills like stealth, surveillance, computer hacking and sniping. Go head-to-head, or mix it up with co-operative games in both Arcade and Simulation settings. There's something for everyone, including an exciting new style of multi-player gaming! Superior sound includes the ability to use noise to distract enemies or alert team mates and there's a cutting edge techno soundtrack from Messy. Also, the main character looks just like Eminem since Eminem was really popular when this game came out.

The Resistance and Conformists teams go head-to-head to take each other's flag and return them, more than one flag per team can be added to a map but in official maps (and most custom ones) there is normally only one each. Map prefix is CTF-

A gametype original to Devastation, in Territories the two teams must take these steps:

  • Retrieve the security codes from a machine normally located in the middle of a map
  • Hack the enemy laser fence(s) (you must have the codes to do this
  • Destroy the enemy spawner, when you have done this no enemies will be able to spawn
  • Hunt down any remaining enemies

Just a note: all of the mentioned mods (don't think there are actually any more) are by Clan {[RTW]}, namely {[RTW]}AJRAD and {[RTW]}Overdrive.

A mod that has 10 new weapons, a health cap of 300, and some new heads for the admin command, SetHeads <headclass>. DDM, CTF and DTT gametypes available (INS, INC, IND).

  • Laser Viper: fires red laser things. Can be used akimbo.
  • Plasma Blaster: fires balls of plasma.
  • Disintegrator: concentrated green laser that, as its name suggests, disintegrates stuff.
  • Fusion Gatling Gun: sprays large amounts of flares in the vague direction of the enemy.
  • Smiley Box Gun: fires massive disconcertingly smiling boxes towards the enemy. Very destructive.
  • Holy Hell Rocket Colt: pistols that fire rockets? wth? Yeah well. Can be used akimbo.
  • Smiley Knife: like the normal knife except it has a smiley face on it and laughs at it blows up in the face of your enemy.
  • Throwing Katana: katanas that you can throw like knives.
  • Maniac Rifle: fires huge amounts of smaller smilie boxes. Deadly as hell.
  • Suicide Bomb: everybody starts with one of these and they come in handy for some losers who are about to die, also good for complete nutjobs as it kills enemies in a radius (and yourself....).

[edit] Weapons of Mass Destruction (WOMD)

While not officially released as a gametype, the weapons for this are included in some {[RTW]} maps. This mod is a collaboration between {[RTW]}AJRAD, {[RTW]}Overdrive, {[RTW]}DJMUFFIN and {[RTW]}Zorotho. Basically it's just a bunch of weapons. This mod is still in progress, and is due for release in late 2006, with about 50 weapons. All I can tell you about this mod is that all the weapons are amazingly destructive, and are intensely fun on maps full of bots, which brings me to the next mod.

[edit] {[RTW]} Bot Mod

Devastation itself does not have any multiplayer AI bots. But this mod brings them to Deva :) The bots are not implemented through a menu like UT2004 or Pariah, but have to be added into a map, they act like players (vaguely stupid players), and are best used in massive groups as cannon fodder for the weapons of WOMD.

The aim here is to destroy a number of targets belonging to the enemy team, while defending your own. There is only one weapon in this gametype, the Q*Laser, which is just a red P*Laser.

This is normal Devastation DDM and CTF with uber-weapons and movement speed, also has enhanced jumping control and power.

On this mod you must work through each weapon in the game and get a kill with it, before moving on to the next, the first player to kill someone with every weapon wins the game.

[edit] Remote Control

This mod has just got to be the best. It is currently still under construction and all what is in mod is the Heli Copter. During the making of the mod there should be a Remote Control Fish, Shark and a Car

[edit] The Helicopter

The Helicopter is a modified rat that can fly. The changes are that it can move like a normal heli would do. It also has a cannon which is annoying because you have to click rapidly and that can give you a sore finger. This mod was made on the 24th July 2006.
